WABASH, Ind. (Feb. 17, 2024) – Beacon Credit Union Foundation recently gifted three community organizations with grants totaling $44,600. The foundation selected the following organizations: City of Rushville Fire Department Rush County (Rushville), Emmaus Mission Center (Logansport), and Pipe Creek Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. (Bunker Hill).

Rushville Member Center Manager Diana Marlatt said, “I am grateful to have our Fire Department who educates my kids and their peers in what to do in case of a fire.”

City of Rushville Fire Department Rush County Fire chief Michael Justice said the grant will be used to help fund a new inflatable smoke house to educate youth on fire safety and proper exit drills in the home.

“We are lucky to have a business like Beacon Credit Union that is able to give back to the communities and invest in the future of our youth,” Justice said.

Logansport Member Center Manager Molly Long said she is thrilled to see Emmaus receive the BCU Foundation grant to better help serve the Logansport and Cass County communities.

She stated Emmaus Mission Center is a staple for those in need serving over 24,000 families last year.

“Their stewardship reaches far beyond the walls of the mission center with hunger and other needs,” Long said.

Peru Member Center Manager Tina Carter said, “The Beacon Foundation is a great opportunity for the Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department and the community they serve.”

She also said the funds will be used in upgrading some of their equipment and will be a great invest into the Pipe Creek Township community.

Pipe Creek Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. Fire Chief Jon Allen said the limitations of the current radio system can potentially delay life-saving interventions, and jeopardize responder safety.

“As Fire Chief, I am acutely aware of the critical role seamless communication plays in every emergency response,” Allen said.

He also stated the project will have a lasting impact on the community.

Grant funding meetings occur in January and July. The deadline to submit applications for consideration in July is May 31, 2024. Organizations not receiving a grant may re-apply for the next grant cycle. The chosen organizations for January 2024 may apply again in one full calendar year following the receipt of their grant. If anyone has questions on the application process please reach out to Marketing.
