Phishing Scam Alert! Attention members!

Recent Scams we are seeing this Holiday Season:

  1. Text messages that state you need to verify an auto payment that you have set up. There’s usually a link in the text and it goes to a screen that asks for their online username and password. This is usual and Beacon would never ask for your username and password.
  2. Another recent scam going around are fraudsters pretending to be legal entities (such as law enforcement, federal agents) asking for individuals to send funds via 3rd party money transfers. Legal entities would never request this.

Be on the lookout – especially during the  holiday shopping season–for scammers that target you with phishing texts claiming to be from Beacon Credit Union and other trusted companies such as Amazon, FedEx, PayPal, and more. They are attempting to steal your personal information and we want to help you stay safe!

If you receive a suspicious text, NEVER click on any links or provide your online banking credentials, account or card number(s), or any other personal information. As a reminder, Beacon Credit Union will NEVER ask for your username, password or verification code via text, email or any other medium. Beacon will also NEVER request you send funds via Cash App, Venmo, Apple Cash or other money transfers.

Red flags to look for:

Urgent request for personal details,
Unusual or suspicious links,
Poor grammar or spelling,
Unfamiliar sender names
