Awareness Washington County

Awareness Washington County is a community leadership training organization dedicated to developing servant leaders who are equipped to make a positive impact in their community. Each year, the program brings together local participants for leadership training that builds skills, awareness, and a deeper understanding of community needs. Through this experience, participants are given tools and opportunities to engage in meaningful service and help strengthen Washington County through active, informed, and compassionate leadership.

CASA of Washington County Indiana Inc

CASA of Washington County advocates for the best interest of abused and neglected children within the court system. Based on the belief that children are entitled to a permanent, safe, secure and enriching home environment, CASA works in the court system through screened, trained and supervised volunteers in collaboration with key agencies, legal counsel, and community resources to serve as the child’s advocate.

Hoosier Uplands Afterschool Program

The Hoosier Uplands Afterschool Programs provide free, academic-based programming to students in grades K-5 directly after school hours until 5:45p every day that school is in session. The program strives to bridge the gap between the regular school day and after school hours. The program provides a safe place for students to go while their parents/guardians are working to provide for their families, to receive additional homework help support, and to receive a healthy snack following the regular school day.

Salem Community Schools/Grade 8 – Agriculture,Foods,and Natural Resources class – Farm Day Experience.

Salem Middle School Farm Day Program is an educational event organized by Chris Catlin, 8th Grade Agriculture, Foods, and Natural Resources teacher at Salem Middle School in Salem, Indiana. Each year, the program brings together approximately 100–120 students and 20–24 guest presenters representing a variety of agricultural and related industries. These presenters share their expertise and help students understand the many career pathways connected to agriculture and its critical role in feeding and sustaining the world. The event also includes educational activities such as agriculture trivia and a seek-and-find contest, along with meals and recognition for both students and guests, creating an engaging, hands-on learning experience that connects classroom learning to real-world applications.

Salem Food Bank

Salem Food Bank is a community-based organization dedicated to helping individuals and families facing food insecurity in the Salem area. Through food distribution and local support services, the food bank provides essential groceries and resources to those in need, helping ensure that no one in the community goes hungry. Relying on donations and volunteers, the Salem Food Bank plays an important role in supporting residents during times of hardship and strengthening the overall well-being of the community.

Salem Park and Rec Dept

Salem Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for maintaining city parks and providing a variety of youth and community recreation programs, including baseball, basketball, soccer, seasonal events such as Easter egg hunts, as well as facilities like the community swimming pool and skate park. The department plays an important role in offering safe, accessible recreational opportunities for residents of all ages and supporting community engagement through year-round programming. They are currently seeking support for new baseball scoreboard replacements, as the existing boards are over 20 years old and in need of updating, with an estimated project cost of $2,000–$3,000. Community support would be matched by the city and would also provide sponsorship recognition opportunities.

 

Special Olympics Washington County

Special Olympics Washington County provides year-round sports training and athletic events for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, offering opportunities to build confidence, develop physical fitness, and experience the joy of competition. Through local competitions and events hosted in partnership with area schools, athletes are supported by volunteers, families, and educators who help create an inclusive and encouraging environment. These events celebrate ability, promote community involvement, and foster friendships through the power of sports.

Washington Co YMCA

Washington County YMCA is a community-based organization dedicated to strengthening the health, wellness, and overall well-being of individuals and families throughout Washington County. They offer a variety of programs and services, including fitness and wellness opportunities, youth sports and activities, childcare, and community engagement programs that support healthy living and personal growth. Through accessible programming for all ages, the YMCA helps build stronger connections within the community while promoting physical activity, youth development, and a sense of belonging.

Washington County Historical Society – The John Hay Center

The Washington County Historical Society operates the John Hay Center which is home to the Steven’s Memorial Museum which is full of items representing Washington County’s rich history.  There is also, the John Milton Hay Birthplace, Pioneer Village and an outdoor amphitheater.  Also included is the Depot Railroad Museum where artifacts tell the story of the famous Hoosier Line, The Monon and a model railroad display provides a look at the path the railroad made through the county. The John Hay Center provides tours of the museum, programming that explores history, and hosts the annual Old Settler’s Day Festival.  The Genealogical Library at the Steven’s Museum is a favorite for those exploring their roots and a Genealogy Club is sponsored by WCHS.  There is literally something for everyone!
