Orleans Public Library 2026 Summer Reading Program
The Orleans Public Library Children’s Summer Reading Program is a six-week community program designed to encourage early literacy and foster a lifelong love of reading among children from birth through 6th grade. Beginning June 2, 2026, the program provides free daily participation opportunities, weekly reading incentives, and grand prizes for completion to help make reading engaging and fun for young participants.
In addition to reading activities, the program features special guest performers and library events that bring families together and strengthen community connection. By providing access to free books, interactive programming, and positive learning experiences, the Orleans Public Library haelps support early education and enrich family engagement throughout the summer.
Orleans Running Start
Orleans Running Start is a community program that supports Orleans Community School students by providing school supplies, backpacks, clothing items, a book, and a haircut to help them start the school year prepared and confident. The program helps reduce barriers for families and promotes student success.
Robins Nest Initiative
The Robins Nest Initiative, developed by Family Forward in Orange County, is a community-based project designed to provide a safe, temporary “soft landing” space for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. In situations where immediate placement is not available, children may otherwise wait in DCS offices or police stations for extended periods of time.
The Robins Nest will offer a studio-apartment-style environment where children can clean up, rest, and have a meal while awaiting placement. By providing a calm and supportive setting during a highly traumatic transition, the initiative aims to bring comfort, dignity, and stability to children in crisis while they wait for their next safe home.
Safe Haven REC
Safe Haven REC is a community organization that provides free recovery support services including coaching, transportation, food pantry access, Narcan distribution, and community events for individuals affected by substance use. The organization also serves as a community resource during local emergencies, helping support residents in times of crisis.
