American Legion Post #150

The American Legion, Post #150’s impact carries beyond the Veterans and families of veterans into our entire community through their service and the programs in which they have developed.  Scholarships, sports team sponsorships, charity benefits, sponsorships of Boys and Girls Hoosier State candidates, and fundraisers benefit many individuals, families, and organizations within Rush County.  The Legion’s facilities serve as a location for bereavement dinners, benefits, and fundraisers for community members as well.

Changing Footprints

Changing Footprints collects new and used shoes to distribute to Rush County families who need help providing shoes for themselves and their children. Last year more than 5900 pairs of shoes were distributed locally. In addition, the organization collects and distributes shoes that go to a mission in Liberia, our local food pantry, the Connersville food pantry, and the Muncie Mission homeless shelter. The warehouse is open two Saturdays and two Thursday’s every month and anyone with need may visit and pick out shoes and socks. The Changing Footprints goal is found in their motto: “Changing the world, two feet at a time.” Changing Footprints is run completely by volunteers.

ECI-CISM (East Central Indiana- Critical Incident Stress Management)

This unique resource is comprised of a group of dedicated community professionals from East Central Indiana who trained volunteers are providing supportive services to the community at no charge. A critical incident causes responders to experience unusually strong emotional reactions, which have the potential to interfere with their ability to cope with the incident either at the scene or later. Team members are trained in both defusing critical incidents shortly after their occurrence and debriefing involved individuals in the days that follow the incident. Many of these team members know what it is like to experience a traumatic event, having survived similar situations or by having professional experience assisting in situations. Members of this team are highly dedicated to respond to area critical incidents and assist emergency personnel in dealing with the emotional effects.
The teams’ goal is to reduce emotional tension and facilitate recovery processes of people having normal reactions to abnormal events.

Know early. Grow early.

• Communicates with the public, stressing the importance of early learning and taking a multi-generational approach to meet the needs of the entire family. Helps others understand the connection between early learning and overall community health.
• Focuses on all types of health for babies, toddlers and mothers. Currently working to establish a local program to support new moms with in-home visits.
•  Acts as a connector for other organizations that serve young children and their families, such as Rush 2 Health and Rush Memorial Hospital. Convenes monthly meetings with program staff and others interested in early learning.
• Serves as a resource for people wanting to become childcare providers, helping them provide a high-quality, safe experience for children.
• Oversees the “From the Bottom Up Diaper Pantry”. Diapers are available to anyone with an infant or toddler in their life, during operating hours of local food and clothing pantries.

Hope Center

The Hope Center of Connersville offers confidential services for women and men. Our services include STI testing and treatment, pregnancy testing, education, and limited ultrasounds. We believe you matter!

Milroy Community Food Pantry, Inc.

We are a Food Pantry located in Milroy Elem. School, Rush Co., Milroy, IN 46156. We have two distributions each month: 1st Saturday 10:00-Noon; 3rd Monday 5:00-7:00 p.m. We are a drive-thru Pantry which means we fill the boxes with food and use carts to take to cars. We provide nice boxes of food with an assortment and many of the following: Fresh Produce, Frozen Vegetables and Fruit, Frozen Meat, Dry Beans, Rice, Canned Vegetables-low sodium, Canned Fruit, Cereal, Shelf Milk, Orange Juice, Peanut Butter, Jelly. Bread/Buns Bakery items and Desserts (donated by Kroger), Soups, Chili, Crackers, Pasta, Canned Chicken, Canned Tuna. We buy most of our food from Gleaners’ Food Bank/delivered; Pick up donated food from Midwest Food Bank/Indianapolis and Kroger/Rushville. Most all of our proceeds come from Grants, monthly credit from Gleaners, two small monthly donations from Churches and very few from individuals. Milroy is a small town with very few businesses in a position to donate. Our most recent distribution on Saturday, April 1, 2023, we served 156 households containing 407 individuals. Age Brackett 60 years and over was 33% of total, and 18 were Veterans.

MoRE for Kids

MoRE for Kids operates with the belief that every child has the ability to succeed and thrive in life. It is our mission to support and empower Rush County youth through one-on-one mentoring. We make meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers and children, ages 6-16.

Rush County Community Foundation – CIRCLe Fund

The CIRCLe (Chicks Impacting Rush County Life) Fund is an RCCF fund that offers women the chance to combine their resources and make a large grant each year to a transformative project. CIRCLe members grant 80% of donations to an organization voted upon by the membership. The remaining 20% is endowed and continues to grow forever.  The competitive grant offers local programs the chance to dream big and serve the community in innovative ways. TOGETHER we find a way to ‘make lemonade’ with the many challenging requests that are placed in front of us. We always deal with a committed sense of fairness. With everyone’s help and patience, we know that we are doing everything possible to make Rush County RISE year after year.

Rushville Animal Shelter

We are a small rural city funded shelter located in Rush County on the far East side of the state of Indiana. We are considered a “Low Kill” shelter. We do not euthanize for time or space, however, we will for medical or behavior reasons. Each animal in our care is evaluated as an individual to determine if they meet adoptable criteria, would they benefit from a rescue, or would a peaceful and pain free end be in their best interest.

Rushville FFA

The Rushville FFA chapter is one of the largest in the state and focuses on developing students’ potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success.

Rushville Police Department

The mission of the Rushville Police Department is to continually strive to be anywhere, anytime, to help anyone with anything. The Rushville Police Department is involved with several programs designed to educate the general public regarding the dangers of drug and alcohol use, general crime prevention, and keeping our area schools safe all in efforts to make our hometown safer. Those programs include D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), police K9 demonstrations and illegal substance identification programs, and information on how to stay safe during special occasions such as Halloween.  The Rushville Police Department also oversees and provides officers for the School Resource Officer program in partnership with Rush County Schools with one full-time SRO and several more part-time SROs consisting of fully sworn police officers.
