A Cause for Paws – A Cause for Paws animal rescue helps find homes for homeless animals, offers medical services to injured and elderly animals, fosters animals until they find homes, and gives each animal all vaccinations, spay/neuters and obedience training. This organization includes all volunteers, and they receive no major funding. I created the Paddle for Paws Canoe Race, in its fifth year, to help these local heroes, but they need more money. A Cause used to operate in the Logansport Mall but has recently moved to the Cass County Humane Society. The space they occupy is unfinished due to lack of funds. A Cause estimates $5000 is needed to complete the space. Please help this wonderful organization who has rescued hundreds of cats and dogs in their long history.

Back-Roads Dog Rescue – Back-Roads Dog Rescue is a small rural not for profit dog rescue based out of Walton, Indiana. The animals are rescued from shelters and bad situations where many were abused, abandoned and not properly cared for. Once at the rescue they are all fully vetted, temperament tested, socialized and then placed for adoption across the U.S. to new loving forever homes. Back-Roads does not only rescue dogs but also has a few cats available for adoption. Currently most of those that are available for adoption are senior dogs and cats who have come to the rescue due to no fault of their own. Many were given up due to their age or health issues. All of the rescues stay in approved foster homes where they are loved, socialized and cared for until they are adopted. If they are not adopted they are cared for as comfortably as they can be as one of the family. Back-Roads is also very community oriented and in the past has helped provide dog houses and straw to those in need in the winter, food on emergency basis and has teamed with other not for profit organizations for both human and canine fundraising events.

Civic Players of Logansport – Since 1958, Civic Players of Logansport has provided live theater to Logansport, showcasing the talents of citizens of Logansport and the surrounding communities. This fills a community need by exposing our community to live theater and by teaching important skills to our participants and cast members. Civic Players owns a building located at 1115 Erie Avenue in Logansport, which is used for auditions, rehearsals, and cast parties, as well as set construction and storage of costumes and props. There are two separate sections of roof (a flat section and a metal section), both of which leaked badly. We have recently scraped together enough money for a roof repair, but there is lots of interior work still to be done (replacing ceiling tiles, installing insulation, etc.). Any money raised through Project Spotlight will be earmarked for our Building Renovation Fund. A long-term solution to our ongoing building repair issues will allow us to focus on continuing the tradition of bringing live theater to our community … a tradition that now spans more than 55 years!

In addition, Emmaus will share meals at the shelter with community members in need. Other projects have included assisting with the summer meal program for children.
