Scam Alert - Beware of "Vishing"
Beacon Credit Union has been made aware of phone calls targeting local consumers. These calls are both automated and live. Once the consumer answers, the caller or automated message begins by informing the consumer that their debit/credit card has been deactivated due to suspected fraudulent charges. In order to confirm the card number, the caller or system requests the cardholder enter their 16 digit card number.
Please remember, Beacon Credit Union does not place calls to cardholders requesting that they provide personal information or 16 digit card numbers. If you receive a call requesting any information, please do not respond. This type of scam is known as vishing (voice phishing). Members should never respond to these calls by providing the requested personal or financial information – no matter how urgent the message may seem.
If you inadvertently respond to such a call by providing account or card information, please notify the credit union immediately to close or block the accounts affected to prevent fraudulent transactions. You can contact the Credit Union by going to your nearest branch or via phone at 260-563-7443 or 1-800-762-3136.
